As I mentioned, I got spendy in June and instituted a spending freeze in July.
This entails halting the purchase of non-essential items — coffee, lunches out, dinner, pedis, clothes and shoes – that kind of thing.
In response to my post, readers sent several supportive e-mails sharing similar experiences and ideas.
One reader had an awesome idea! She kept a little notebook, and whenever she felt the need to purchase something she didn’t *really* need, she wrote it down, along with the price.
At the end of the month, she would go through this notebook and tally up the money she saved.
There would usually be one or two items that made the cut, which she would buy, without buyer’s remorse.
I love this idea! I’m going to try to do a similar version on Twitter, using the hashtags #julyfreeze and/or #didntbuyit.
I think either pencil and paper or Twitter would work well. I hope I can keep it up and track my impulses.
Will you do the #julyfreeze? Why? Why not? What do you think of spending freezes? How long have you been able to go? Did you already start? What have you *not* bought?
